Frogs/Hangers

(A frog is an open leather pocket that serves as a connecting holder between the belt and the scabbard, but can be used on its own to hold an exposed sword. Preferred for fight shows. But not every sword works well with a frog. For example, a Gossamer Swept Hilt fitted with a light epee or even a schlaeger blade will topple out of a frog, so may need a full steel scabbard. Call and ask.)

 

    L451 – Broadsword/Dagger Frog: As the name implies, it will hold just about any wide bladed weapon $2.40

    L401 – Basic Rapier Frog: bare bones light sword holder, yet still holds the sword at the correct angle. $1.60

    L403 – ZA! Rapier Frog: two belt loops for a tighter fit, and a metal insert to provide the sound when drawing your weapon. $3.20

    L405 – Wide-Blade Rapier Frog: also wide enough to hold most drop-style scabbards. $4.00

    L481 – Ax/Mace Frog: Just drop the shaft of your impact weapon into the ring, and gravity takes care of the rest. $3.00

    L46 – Poniard Frog: for the light poniard bladed daggers. $2.40

    L431 – Sabre Frog: holds the drop-style broadsword and sabre scabbards. $1.50

    L404 – Adjustable Rapier Frog: two straps to hold onto the sword or scabbard, and two loops to slide onto any belt. $7.20

    L52 – Hook Sabre Carrier (for two-ringed scabbard): military sabres are often meant to be worn down almost at knee level, which is fine when you are on horseback. We shortened the straps and reversed the hook so it can drop onto any sash or belt. $4.60

Is there a difference? Well, although either will completely cover the blade of an edged weapon, a sheath is made of soft or flexible material (leather or fabric), while a scabbard must have a rigid backing (steel or wood)

Unfortunately, we don’t have much discretion when choosing blade coverings. We try to accommodate specific requests, but usually the sword has the final say on what it will or will not enter. There are a bunch of different styles and shapes and materials, but more often than not, when you choose a blade, it chooses the scabbard.

 

The following is a quick run-down of 30-day rental costs for some scabbard/sheath examples:

 

sheath - dagger -$3.20

 

sheath - shortsword -$5.60

 

sheath - broadsword -$5.60
